When a child is diagnosed with autism or other special needs, the entire family is impacted—especially siblings. Many parents struggle with whether to involve their other children in caregiving, wanting to protect them from added responsibilities. However, integrating siblings into the care process early on can foster stronger family bonds, create a supportive environment, and provide lifelong companionship.

In this interactive workshop, Building Your Village: Siblings as Your Greatest Allies, we’ll explore the essential role siblings play in caregiving and how their involvement can enhance understanding, resilience, and emotional connection. Drawing from my personal journey as a sibling deeply involved in my brother’s care, I’ll share practical strategies to help parents confidently include siblings in this process.

This session will also feature a networking component where families can connect, share experiences, and build a supportive community—a true “village” where they can exchange advice, encouragement, and resources.

Key Takeaways:

  • The benefits of involving siblings in the care journey from an early stage
  • Practical strategies to empower siblings without overwhelming them
  • How to create a balanced family dynamic where every member feels valued and supported
  • Opportunities to build a network of families who understand and uplift each other
