Breakthrough Speech Language Therapy App Wins Parents’ Choice Award and Users’ Choice
Junganew: A Herd of Sounds for “S” is the first in a series of story based speech and language therapy adventure apps that create an EXPERIENCE for children to learn their sounds. It is primarily intended for children ages 4+. This ingenious iPad app came away from the 2015 Tabby Awards with not one, but two distinguished honors: Parents’ Choice and Users’ Choice.
The Land of Junganew Offers a Pioneering Way to Learn Sounds
Junganew takes full advantage of the latest technological advances for iPad featuring an interaction between speech sounds, language skills and social engagement. Also featured are original musical strategies, 5 interactive Mirror Models and 8 games in this rich story based adventure. This groundbreaking app utilizes the microphone on the iPad as a tool to improve children’s oral motor skills by prompting them to blow on the screen guiding the School “Balloon” through the Land of Junganew.
Best of all, children can use the original interactive Mirror Models which allow them to listen to the character’s sound production on one side of the screen, and mirror that sound production by viewing a real time video recording of themselves on the other side of the screen. This prepares them to communicate clearly like never before. The inclusive approach to speech, language and pragmatics allows children to build their confidence, while building the foundation for improved reading and writing skills as well as an eloquent ability for communicating in a world where social/emotional connection is key.
“I really wanted to create an opportunity for all children to experience their sounds in an interactive, playful and meaningful manner,” said Esther Giordano, MA, CCC-SLP, Creator of Junganew. “As a therapist with twenty years of experience, and with our incredible team, we’ve created a new way for children to explore their sounds. Junganew a Herd of Sounds for “S” is an engaging, fun and educational experience that can be played over and over again.”
One Sound at a Time
Children will enjoy collecting seashells, playing hide and seek, dressing up and popping balloons all while learning Miss Snake’s favorite sound. They will also enjoy baking cookies, and singing along with Junganew’s favorite band, “The Vocal Chords.” Parents will appreciate the beauty of the app, the educational component and the fun children will have during homework practice. Parents also have the opportunity to learn how to help their child learn their sounds in the same manner the child would learn in a therapy session. This is the reason each app is dedicated solely to one sound, beginning with the sound of "S" as it is one of the most commonly erred sound.
“Play connects all of us. Junganew helps connect our kids, and connect the dots. We love that we can provide this foundation that kids can use to move forward as better speakers, and functional communicators in a social environment. Junganew is an opportunity to bridge the gap between mainstream children and special needs children." says Giordano. All children need to learn their sounds in order to be effective readers, writers, and speakers. Junganew provides this foundation for building confidence, academic achievement and functional communication.
