Adaptive Tools for Independence: Cooking Tools Supporting the Paralysis Community of Massachusetts The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation provides a Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) to the public that promotes the health, well-being, and independence of people living with paralysis, spinal cord injury, or mobility impairment as well as their caregivers and families by providing free comprehensive information, resources, and referral services through our most popular Information Services program. Additional programs that we offer include peer-to-peer support, Reeve Connect online community and grants to nonprofits that serve people with paralysis. Quantum of the Seas
We were a small group of four wheelchair users and 10 able-bodied from New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and New Jersey. We sailed on the Quantum of the Seas from Bayonne New Jersey. Bayonne is a nice, small, private, port with great enclosed parking. We drove down the day prior and spent the night before boarding the ship. So convenient to have a ship close enough where we did not have to fly. Bayonne is open all year round. Let me help you plan your next cruise vacation. Alaska is a wonderful, accessible destination. You can do just the cruise or enjoy a combination cruise and land tour. The trains and buses are wheelchair accessible. There are many accessible shore excursions to choose from, too. May through September is the cruise/tour season. Summer in Alaska is beautiful. Deb in Cozumel
Deb had CP and had never traveled without her mom and sister. I was able to locate a cabinmate for her. At (50), she had her first grown-up vacation. I had a scooter delivered to the ship, so she could save her shoulders from all the pushing of her manual chair. Her dream was to have a dolphin experience. Northern Europe group cruise
We were a group of 10, who were going on a Northern Europe Cruise. Unfortunately, two couples had to cancel because of a heart attack and a stroke. Both couples had travel protection and had full refunds. The six of us had a wonderful time exploring St Petersburg, Estonia, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo and London. Travel protection will always be offered. Please, do not leave the United States without it. Medicare and Medicaid and MOST major medical plans do NOT cover you outside the US.
Family Reunion
As you can see, Katie is surrounded by lots of family on this family reunion cruise. She is not my only kid wheelchair user to travel on an accessible ship. It does show that cruising is for everyone.
Wheelchair accessible bathroom on a cruise ship
Just like hotels, not all accessible bathrooms are the same. Many have come a long way. The newer the ship the better chance for a truly accessible bathroom. Most ships have toilet seat risers and shower beats or benches, for the asking. In my opinion Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess are the best. Still, the newer the ship the better. 
A wheelchair accessible cabin
Once again, not all ships' accessible cabins are the same. Most of the time an accessible cabin is about 100 sq ft larger than a standard cabin, at no additional cost. You will have full turn around room in the cabin and the bathroom. If you have a balcony cabin on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity you will have room to go out and enjoy your balcony. There are inside, ocean view, balcony, junior suite and Crown Royal Suites and mini suites that are accessible. There are other categories, too.
