The Phoenix Pre-Show Party Begins at Ability360 with Hollister Incorporated
As the Abilities Expo rolls into Phoenix, we cordially invite you to a pre-show party featuring Community Advocates Gina Schuh and Madonna Long!
Join your friends at Ability360 on Thursday, September 8th, for a community get-together as Gina shares her journey of discovering creative outlets during the pandemic. Her passion and talent have led her to excel in painting fine (and sometimes provocative) art. Gina will also display a collection of her recent work for you to enjoy.
Next, Madonna and Gina will share their advocacy adventures, as both women have led efforts to improve insurance coverage of medical equipment and accessible vehicles for people with disabilities.
Both women have worked tirelessly to ensure legislation takes effect so people with disabilities can have healthier, more independent lives. Madonna has successfully lobbied the halls of Congress, regularly meeting with Senators and House Representatives. Gina has spearheaded social media campaigns that received more than 60,000 petition signatures for better healthcare benefits.
Full program details are included in the flyer below. However, space is limited. Please confirm your attendance with Don Price at Ability360 (480-310-1670/ [email protected]) if you'd like to save yourself a snack and a seat at this special event.
Head Over to the Auti Angel Event Arena at the Expo
Abilities Expo showcases a wide range of special events to allow you to test your skills, expand your interests and find programs in the local area. All events take place in the Auti Angel Events Arena unless otherwise noted.
We are pleased to announce that our longtime exhibitor, Hollister Incorporated, is the exclusive sponsor of this hub of action and audience involvement on the Abilities Expo floor!
Next door to the Events Arena, Ability360 Sports and Fitness will have equipment and staff on hand to allow you to demo a variety of sports like golf, rowing and more. You'll watch an actual wheelchair football clinic on Saturday from 11:30 to 1:30. You'll even get to check out adaptive off-roading vehicles like the TerrainHopper and Lasher Cycles!
But that's not all! There will be plenty more action in the Auti Angel Event Arena. Get your free pass to join the fun here.
Introducing Your Friendly Emcees, Madonna Long and Brock Masters
We're pleased to introduce you to not one, but two hosts of the Events Arena on behalf of Hollister during the Phoenix Expo, taking place at the NRG Center on August 5-7, 2022.
Madonna Long has been a force for advocacy and independence since 1981, when a school bus accident caused her to become a paraplegic.
For over 20 years, she has helped drive legislation efforts to protect access to health care and independence for people with disabilities nationwide. Today, she continues to serve her community from her home state of Wyoming, serving on several disability boards while also assisting people with medical supply needs.
"As an advocate, you must always make your case," Madonna explains. "You should first present your issue with the facts and courtesy. Not everyone in our society will agree on all matters, but you may persuade them to see it your way if you use kindness."
"Remember, we are all teachers, and advocacy is a way of educating," she adds. "It is all in your presentation."
We also welcome Brock Masters, Secure Start Program Manager for Hollister, who moved to the United States more than a decade ago after successfully running his own ostomy business in Canada.
"I am also, like many of you, a customer and have used intermittent catheters since I was ten. I was born with Spina Bifida and relied on these essential products. I understand the importance of support and encouragement in those days, weeks, months and even years after an accident or life-changing event," Brock shares.
"I also know the richness of life as a happy and productive person. Will I still have a healthy love life? Can I swim? Exercise? Will I remain independent or need assistance?" he continues.
"These questions all crossed my mind while lying in bed recovering from surgery. In the time that followed, I discovered the answer to all these questions for me was YES. I was the person who would empower myself to move forward."
"Although our experiences differ across the disability community, they shape our character and help us grow as people," he adds. "I encourage you to embrace opportunity and not fear it!"
In addition to sponsoring the Auti Angel Events Arena, Hollister offers educational assistance from nurses and product experts for self-cathing and ostomy care through a free support program called Secure Start Services. Brock explains, "Our goal is to help you obtain the knowledge and skills you need to move forward, from whatever led you to us, to living your life to the fullest."
Hollister Incorporated manufactures quality medical products for ostomy, continence, wound and critical care markets and will be exhibiting in booth #832 at the Phoenix Abilities Expo.
